  • Acute demyelinating condition, has been associated with relatively recent history of vaccination.
  • Associated with
    • Paramyxovirus
    • Varicella
    • Rubella
    • Epstein-Barr virus
  • Like MS, may also demonstrate oligoclonal bands in CSF.
  • ADEM is generally monophasic, and lesions occur within a couple of weeks.
  • CSF
    • Raised prot
    • Lymphocytic pleocytosis
  • Treatment
    • High-dose IV corticosteroids
      • Good response
    • Plasmapheresis
    • IV immunoglobulin
