Peripheral nerve study

  • General information
    • Measurement of conduction velocity along a peripheral nerve can test motor, sensory, and reflex pathways
    • Timing of electrodiagnostic testing
      • EMG changes take 1 to 3 weeks to become recordable in the muscles.
      • Nerve conduction abnormalities, however, are present immediately and can be helpful in the immediate determination of the extent of injury.
