This Italian proposes a diamond-shaped mini-craniotomy for haematoma evacuation which is more minimal access than a large craniotomy and may be a good option for elderly patients who previously may not have been considered for surgery.
They calculated that the standard round craniotomy has a 35.6% reduction in access compared to this diamond-shaped technique due to dural edges anchoring better. This means a shorter incision and smaller craniotomy will provide the same access as the standard approach.
