- The use of furosemide has been advocated, but little data exists to support this.
- Loop acting diuretics may reduce ICP by reducing cerebral edema
- Mechanism
- Increasing serum tonicity
- Slow the production of CSF.
- Act synergistically with mannitol
- ℞:
- 10–20mg IV q 6 hrs, may be alternated with mannitol such that the patient receives one or the other q 3 hrs.
- Stop
- Hold if serum osmolarity > 320 mOsm/L.
