- Mild TBI increases the risk of epilepsy 2x for the first 5 years after injury.
- Seizures within the first week are acute symptomatic events and not considered epilepsy.
- Post-traumatic epilepsy seizures
- 50% occur within 1st year
- 80% occur within 2 years.
- Prophylactic anticonvulsant treatment does not prevent post-traumatic epilepsy and is not recommended.
